Gigantocellularis
Gigantocellularis refers to a specific type of cell characterized by its unusually large size. This term is most commonly associated with the giant cells of the nervous system, particularly in the brainstem. These neurons, known as the gigantocellular neurons, are found in the pontine reticular formation. They are distinguished by their large somata and extensive dendritic arbors, which allow them to integrate signals from a wide range of inputs. These neurons play a significant role in motor control, particularly in regulating posture and locomotion, and are involved in descending motor pathways.
Beyond the nervous system, the term "gigantocellular" can also be applied to other cell types that exhibit
