Gestetner
Gestetner is a brand name associated with duplicating machines. Originally, it referred to the Gestetner duplicator, a stencil-based duplicating device invented by David Gestetner in the late 19th century. This machine was widely used for producing copies of documents, newsletters, and other printed materials. It worked by using a stylus to punch small holes in a wax-coated paper stencil. Ink would then be rolled over the stencil, passing through the holes to create a print on paper placed underneath. The Gestetner duplicator was a significant innovation for its time, making mass duplication more accessible and affordable than traditional printing methods. Over time, the Gestetner brand expanded its product line to include other office equipment and printing technologies. While the original stencil duplicators have largely been superseded by modern photocopiers and digital printers, the Gestetner name remains historically significant in the evolution of office duplication technology. The company itself has undergone various changes in ownership and focus throughout its history, with the brand continuing to exist in some markets.
