Gelani

Gelani is a fictional island nation located in the tropical southwestern region of its world. It comprises a main island and several smaller islets, spanning roughly 4,800 square kilometers. The terrain includes volcanic highlands, mangrove coastlines, and dense rainforest interiors. The climate is tropical maritime, with a wet season from May to November and a drier season the rest of the year.

Indigenous communities have inhabited Gelani for centuries. Contact with external traders began in the 17th century, followed by colonization by a maritime empire. The country gained independence in the early 20th century and adopted a democratic constitution in the late 20th century, establishing a multi-party system and regular elections.

Gelani is a constitutional parliamentary republic. The president serves as head of state, while a prime minister is head of government. The unicameral National Assembly has 45 members elected to four-year terms. The judiciary is independent, and local governments administer municipalities and districts.

The economy is diversified, with agriculture (notably cacao, coffee, vanilla), small-scale fishing, and growing ecotourism. Light manufacturing and services are expanding, supported by renewable energy projects in hydro and solar power. The currency is the Gelani dollar (GLD).

Population is around 2.5 million. The official language is Gelani; English and local creole languages are widely spoken. The society blends traditional beliefs with modern religious practices, and cultural life features music, dance, and coastal cuisine centered on seafood and tropical fruits.

Education is publicly funded with a high literacy rate, and universities maintain regional partnerships. Gelani protects biodiversity through national parks and marine reserves, reflecting a policy prioritizing conservation and sustainable tourism.
