Gangutclass
The Gangut‑class was a trio of armored cruisers built for the Imperial Russian Navy at the turn of the twentieth century. The class was laid down between 1906 and 1910 by the Russian shipyards Sevastopol and Nikolayev, and entered service during the last years of the Russo‑Japanese War of 1904–1905. Designed with a combination of heavy main guns, substantial armor, and adequate sea‑keeping, the ships represented Russia’s attempt to match the growing firepower of the United Kingdom and France while still keeping their coastal defense role in focus.
