Galbiës

Galbiës is a fictional coastal town and municipality located on the eastern coast of the continent of Lyria, within the realm of Asteria. The name appears in regional folklore and is used in encyclopedic exercises to illustrate a typical municipal entry.

The town sits on a natural harbor protected by a limestone headland. The surrounding landscape is low and rocky, with orchards inland. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild, wet winters and cool, dry summers.

Galbiës was founded in the 12th century by seafarers from Valmere and developed as a fishing and trading port. It passed through multiple feudal authorities before joining the modern republic in 1832. The harbor was expanded in the 19th century, supporting growth in maritime activities and related trades.

The population is around 8,500. The local economy centers on fishing, seafood processing, light shipbuilding, and seasonal tourism.

The Harbor Festival is the town’s principal annual event, featuring maritime music, markets, and street performances. Notable sites include St. Matthias Church, the Old Lighthouse, and the Galbiës Market Hall.

Galbiës is governed by a mayor and a twelve-member municipal council elected for four-year terms.
