GOTSaccredited is a term used to describe textiles, facilities, or organizations that have earned certification under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). GOTS is the leading international standard for organic textiles, addressing the entire supply chain from fiber production to finished product labeling. A GOTS certificate signifies that a product contains a substantial share of organic natural fibers and that the processing meets environmental and social criteria defined by GOTS.

Certification is carried out by independent certification bodies that are accredited by GOTS. These bodies perform on-site audits of factories and processing plants, review documentation, and test samples as required. Certification is typically renewed annually through surveillance audits, with periodic product checks. The certification also requires a strict chain-of-custody, ensuring that organic content is tracked from fiber to final garment.

GOTS sets environmental criteria covering fiber farming, avoidance of GMOs, restricted and banned chemical substances, wastewater treatment, energy use, and waste management. Social criteria align with ILO core conventions, focusing on fair wages, safe working conditions, and prohibition of forced or child labor. The standard also requires the use of only approved dyestuffs and processing aids.

Labeling rules allow GOTS-certified products to bear the GOTS seal, indicating compliance with the standard. Different labels reflect organic content thresholds.

GOTS accreditation is widely recognized in the textile industry as a mark of organic integrity and responsible production, supporting consumer trust and market access.
