GDGB

GDGB, or Global Day of Code Retreat, is an annual event that takes place on the last Saturday of November. It is a global initiative aimed at improving the skills of software developers through collaborative coding exercises. The event is organized by the community and is open to anyone who is interested in participating.

The primary goal of GDGB is to promote the practice of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Extreme Programming (XP). Participants work in small groups to solve a simple coding problem, with the emphasis on writing clean, testable code. The day is structured into multiple sessions, each lasting about 45 minutes, with a short break in between. After each session, the group discards the code and starts over, applying a different approach or technique to solve the problem.

GDGB encourages participants to reflect on their coding practices and to learn from each other. The event is not about finding the "best" solution, but rather about exploring different approaches and techniques, and understanding their strengths and weaknesses. It is a great opportunity for developers to improve their skills, learn from others, and network with the global software development community.

GDGB is organized by a group of volunteers and is supported by various sponsors. The event is free to participate in, and there are no prerequisites for joining. All that is required is a willingness to learn and a passion for coding. The event is held virtually, allowing participants from all over the world to join in.
