Fyllere

Fyllere is a term used in Norwegian and Swedish to refer to injectable substances that restore volume or smooth contours in soft tissue. In aesthetic medicine and dentistry, fillers are injected into the skin or underlying tissue to reduce wrinkles, augment lips or cheeks, and improve facial balance. They are used in both cosmetic and reconstructive contexts and are typically administered by trained medical professionals in clinical settings.

Most fillers fall into several categories based on materials and duration. Temporary fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, provide immediate results and are gradually broken down by the body, often lasting from several months up to about a year. Semi-permanent fillers, including calcium hydroxylapatite and poly-L-lactic acid, may offer longer-lasting effects but may require multiple sessions. Autologous fat grafting, using the patient’s own fat, can provide longer-lasting volume but involves a surgical component. Some materials are considered permanent or semi-permanent and carry higher long-term considerations, and their use varies by country and regulatory framework.

Administration involves local anesthesia or topical anesthetics, with injections performed at specific depths to achieve desired contour. Outcomes are generally noticeable immediately, though swelling and minor bruising are common and subside within days. Potential risks include lumpiness, asymmetry, infection, or more rarely vascular complications that require urgent attention. Good candidates are evaluated for medical history, allergies, and contraindications, such as active infections or certain systemic conditions.

Regulation and availability of fyllere vary by jurisdiction, with approval processes and practitioner licensing designed to ensure safety and effectiveness.
