Fusionio
Fusion-io was a company known for its development of solid-state drive (SSD) technology. Founded in 2005, it focused on creating high-performance flash memory solutions for enterprise data centers. Their core innovation was the ioDrive, a PCIe-based flash memory card that offered significantly faster read and write speeds compared to traditional hard disk drives and even earlier SATA-based SSDs. This was achieved through a combination of custom hardware and software optimizations designed to reduce latency and increase throughput. Fusion-io's products were adopted by numerous large organizations and cloud computing providers looking to accelerate their applications and improve overall system performance. The company emphasized its ability to directly connect flash memory to the server's CPU via PCIe, bypassing slower interfaces. In 2012, Fusion-io was acquired by HP for approximately $1.1 billion, integrating its technology into HP's server and storage offerings. While the Fusion-io brand name itself eventually faded, its technological contributions played a significant role in advancing the adoption and capabilities of enterprise-grade SSDs.
