Fullfieldmittaukset, often translated as full-field measurements, refers to a group of optical techniques used to measure the displacement, strain, or shape of a surface over its entire area simultaneously. Unlike point-based measurement methods that probe a single location at a time, full-field techniques capture information from thousands or millions of points in a single measurement. This allows for a comprehensive understanding of the deformation or geometry of an object without the need for extensive scanning.

Common full-field measurement techniques include Digital Image Correlation (DIC), Speckle interferometry, and moiré interferometry. DIC, for instance, tracks the movement of random speckle patterns applied to the object's surface between two or more images. By analyzing how these patterns shift, it can calculate in-plane and out-of-plane displacements and subsequently derive strain fields. Speckle interferometry and moiré interferometry utilize the interference patterns created by light waves interacting with a surface or a superimposed grating to detect minute displacements and deformations.

The primary advantage of full-field measurements is their ability to capture complex deformation patterns, such as stress concentrations, bending, and twisting, across the entire area of interest. This makes them invaluable in fields like experimental mechanics, materials science, aerospace engineering, and biomechanics for analyzing structural integrity, material behavior under load, and the kinematics of biological systems. The data obtained from full-field measurements provides a rich dataset for validation of computational models and for understanding the underlying physical phenomena.
