Fuktresistens

Fuktresistens is a Swedish term meaning moisture resistance. It describes a material’s capacity to withstand the presence of water without losing its structural, mechanical, or functional properties. The concept is central to the design and construction of buildings, transport vehicles, textiles and industrial components where exposure to humidity or direct water contact is expected.

In building construction fuktresistens is applied to insulation, floor coverings, wall panels and protective coatings. Materials that are fuktresistenta maintain integrity under damp conditions, preventing mold, mildew, rot and corrosion. In the textile industry, fuktresistenta fabrics are engineered for sportswear, outerwear and medical textiles, ensuring comfort and durability by repelling moisture while allowing breathability. In the automotive sector fuktresistenta composites and adhesives contribute to corrosion resistance and longevity of body panels and interior trim.

The performance of a material is tested against standards such as EU standard EN 15512 for moisture barrier properties, ASTM D 5207 for skin and body clothing, or ISO 12553 for cementitious materials. Test methods typically involve exposure to controlled humidity or submergence followed by measurements of weight gain, dimensional change, or electrical resistance. A material is considered fuktresistenta when the changes are within specified limits that do not impair its intended function.

Developing fuktresistenta materials often relies on surface treatments, additives, or multilayer structures. Hydrophobic coatings, cross-linked polymers, or nanostructured layers are common solutions. The term also appears in environmental reports to assess the resilience of ecosystems to rising moisture levels driven by climate change.
