Fukthalten

Fukthalten is a small fictional municipality in the northern highlands of the Veridian federation. With a population of about 2,900 and an area of 12.4 square kilometers, it sits along the Luma River near the eastern edge of the Velden Range. The landscape combines forests, pastures, and terraced slopes used for vineyards and orchards. The name Fukthalten is of uncertain origin; scholarly theories point to old Veridian terms for wetlands and settlement, but there is no consensus.

Founded in the 13th century as a mining settlement for copper and tin, Fukthalten later shifted toward agriculture and forestry. It received municipal rights in the 15th century and experienced modest growth until the 19th century, when mining declined and the economy diversified. In the late 20th century tourism and crafts became important.

Administratively, Fukthalten is governed by a nine-member municipal council and a directly elected mayor. It belongs to Veridia’s Northern District and cooperates with neighboring communities on regional services.

The economy today mixes tourism, hospitality, and small manufacturing with farming and forestry. Transport links include regional roads and a regular bus service; the nearest railway station is in Hohenberg, about 12 kilometers away, and the nearest airport is Veridia International, roughly 40 kilometers south.

Culturally, Fukthalten features the St. Jakob Church, Fukthalten Manor (a 17th-century estate), and an annual Harvest Festival. Notable residents are largely historical or fictional figures associated with local lore.
