Fuengirolas

Fuengirola is a municipality and coastal town in the province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, southern Spain. Located on the Costa del Sol between Málaga city and Marbella, it forms part of the Málaga metropolitan area. The town extends along a wide stretch of beaches, has a marina, and serves as a major tourist destination with a wide range of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment.

Geographically, Fuengirola sits on a flat coastal plain, with the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas nearby. The area has ancient roots, with Phoenician, Roman, and Moorish influences. The Moorish fortress of Castillo Sohail stands overlooking the harbor and is a landmark. In the 20th century, Fuengirola grew from a fishing village into a developed tourist town, especially from the 1960s onward.

Key attractions include Bioparc Fuengirola, a large zoological park designed with naturalistic habitats; the Castillo Sohail ruins; and the Puerto Deportivo de Fuengirola, a central marina with shops and dining. The town also hosts markets and cultural events throughout the year. The local economy is dominated by tourism and services, complemented by fishing and small trade.

Fuengirola is connected by the A-7/AP-7 motorway and the railway line C-1, which links Málaga city with Fuengirola. It is served by a local bus network and is relatively close to Málaga Airport. The climate is Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
