Fruktanläggning refers to the developmental stage in flowering plants where the flower bud transitions into a developing fruit. This process begins after successful pollination and fertilization have occurred. The ovary, which contains the ovules, starts to enlarge and mature. The ovules themselves develop into seeds.

This transformation involves significant physiological changes within the plant. Hormonal signals play a crucial role in initiating and regulating fruit set and subsequent development. Nutrients and sugars are redirected from other parts of the plant to support the rapid growth of the ovary. The timing and success of fruktanläggning are influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, light availability, and water.

The structure of the developing fruit can vary greatly depending on the plant species. In some cases, only the ovary develops into the fruit, as seen in tomatoes or peas. In other instances, other floral parts like the receptacle or hypanthium may also contribute to the fruit structure, leading to accessory fruits such as apples or strawberries.
