Frostsprängningar
Frostsprängningar, also known as frost weathering or freeze-thaw weathering, is a physical weathering process that occurs when water penetrates cracks in rocks or soil, freezes, expands, and widens the cracks. This expansion exerts pressure on the surrounding material, which can lead to fragmentation or breakdown. The process is cyclical: water enters a crack, freezes and expands, then thaws, allowing more water to penetrate deeper. Repeated cycles of freezing and thawing can significantly weaken and break apart rocks, pavements, and other materials.
The effectiveness of frostsprängningar is dependent on several factors, including the presence of water, fluctuating temperatures
