Frequenzbänder

Frequenzbänder are specific ranges of radio frequencies used for various communication purposes. These bands are allocated by international bodies like the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to ensure efficient and non-interfering use of the radio spectrum. Each band is assigned a designation, often a letter or number, and a defined range of frequencies in Hertz (Hz), Kilohertz (kHz), Megahertz (MHz), or Gigahertz (GHz).

Different applications are assigned to different frequency bands based on their propagation characteristics and the amount of data they need to transmit. For example, very low frequency (VLF) bands can travel long distances and penetrate water, making them suitable for submarine communication. High frequency (HF) bands are used for long-distance radio communication, including amateur radio and international broadcasting, due to their ability to reflect off the ionosphere. Very high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) bands are commonly used for FM radio, television broadcasting, and mobile phone communication. Microwave frequencies, found in super-high frequency (SHF) and extremely high frequency (EHF) bands, are employed for satellite communication, radar systems, and high-speed wireless internet.

The allocation and management of these frequency bands are crucial for the operation of countless technologies, from everyday consumer electronics to critical infrastructure. International agreements and national regulatory bodies work together to prevent interference and ensure that the limited radio spectrum is used effectively and responsibly.
