The electromagnetic spectrum is broadly divided into several key frequency ranges. Radio waves, with the lowest frequencies, are used for broadcasting, communication, and radar. Microwaves, at higher frequencies, are utilized in microwave ovens, radar, and satellite communications. Infrared radiation, often associated with heat, is used in thermal imaging and remote controls. Ultraviolet radiation, at even higher frequencies, is emitted by the sun and can cause sunburn; it's also used in sterilization and fluorescent lighting. Beyond the electromagnetic spectrum, frequency ranges are also relevant in acoustics, such as the range of human hearing, which typically spans from about 20 Hz to 20 kHz. In telecommunications, specific frequency bands are allocated for different services to prevent interference. Understanding frequency ranges is crucial for designing and utilizing various technologies effectively, from radio transmitters to medical equipment.
