FranciaPolinézia, often referred to as French Polynesia, is an overseas collectivity of France located in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is composed of five archipelagos: the Society Islands, the Tuamotu Archipelago, the Gambier Islands, the Marquesas Islands, and the Austral Islands. The capital and largest city is Papeete, situated on the island of Tahiti in the Society Islands.

The territory spans a vast oceanic area, covering approximately 4,000 square kilometers of land spread across 2.5 million square kilometers of ocean. Its geography is predominantly volcanic islands and atolls. The climate is tropical, characterized by high temperatures and humidity year-round, with a wet season from November to April and a dry season from May to October.

FranciaPolinézia's population is diverse, with a majority of ethnic Polynesians, alongside significant European and Asian minorities. The official languages are French and Tahitian. The economy relies heavily on tourism, which is attracted by its pristine beaches, coral reefs, and volcanic landscapes, particularly in locations like Bora Bora and Moorea. Pearl farming, especially black pearls, is another significant economic activity.

Historically, the islands were settled by Austronesian peoples over a thousand years ago. European explorers, including Ferdinand Magellan and James Cook, visited the region in the 16th and 18th centuries, respectively. France established a protectorate over Tahiti in 1842 and later annexed other islands, consolidating them into French Oceania. In 1957, it was reorganized as the Overseas Territory of French Polynesia, and in 2004, it gained the status of an overseas collectivity with increased autonomy within the French Republic. FranciaPolinézia has a president who heads the government, while France is represented by a High Commissioner.
