FranciaPolinézias, more commonly known as French Polynesia, is an overseas collectivity of France located in the South Pacific Ocean. It comprises 118 islands and atolls scattered across a vast expanse of ocean, forming five distinct archipelagos: the Society Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago, Marquesas Islands, Austral Islands, and Gambier Islands. The capital and largest city is Papeete, situated on the island of Tahiti in the Society Islands.

The territory's economy is heavily reliant on tourism, attracting visitors with its iconic overwater bungalows, turquoise lagoons, and vibrant coral reefs. Pearls, particularly the black pearl, are another significant export. French Polynesia also has a presence in French military activities, with a naval base located on the island of Hao. The official languages are French and Tahitian, though English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Historically, the islands were inhabited by Polynesian peoples. European contact began with Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, followed by various other European navigators. France established a protectorate over Tahiti in 1842 and subsequently annexed other islands, consolidating them into French Polynesia. The territory gained its current status as an overseas collectivity in 2003, granting it greater autonomy within the French Republic.
