FranchisingModellen, commonly referred to as the franchising model, is a business arrangement in which a franchisor licenses its brand, operating system and know-how to a franchisee. The franchisee pays an upfront fee and ongoing royalties in exchange for the right to operate using the franchisor's brand, business format and support infrastructure. The franchisor provides access to training, manuals, supplier networks, marketing strategies and ongoing operational guidance to ensure consistency across outlets.

Key components include a franchise agreement that defines the rights granted, territory, term, renewal, performance standards and quality control. Franchising types include business format franchising, where the entire operating system is licensed, and product distribution or master franchising, where rights cover products or a geographic area and may include sub-franchise rights.

Economically, franchisors earn initial franchise fees, ongoing royalties (often a percentage of revenue), and contributions to national or regional marketing funds. Franchisees benefit from an established brand, a proven business model, training and supplier relationships, which can shorten start-up time and improve odds of success. Risks include dependence on brand health, the need to meet stringent standards, potential conflicts over control and performance, and market or regulatory changes that affect unit profitability.

Franchise models are widely used across sectors such as food service, retail and services, with a mature global ecosystem. Legal and regulatory requirements vary by jurisdiction, including disclosure obligations, franchise registration, and consumer protection rules.
