Fluxcorehitsaus is a welding process that utilizes a tubular electrode containing a flux. This flux serves multiple purposes during welding. It helps to create a shielding gas to protect the molten weld pool from atmospheric contamination, such as oxygen and nitrogen, which can weaken the weld. Additionally, the flux contains deoxidizers and alloying elements that can be transferred to the weld metal, improving its mechanical properties. The arc generated between the electrode and the workpiece melts both the electrode and the base metal, forming a molten pool that solidifies to create the weld joint.

There are two main types of flux-cored arc welding: self-shielded and gas-shielded. Self-shielded flux-cored wire does not require an external shielding gas, as the flux within the electrode generates its own protective atmosphere. This makes it suitable for outdoor or windy conditions where gas shielding might be blown away. Gas-shielded flux-cored wire, on the other hand, requires an external shielding gas, typically carbon dioxide or a mixture of argon and carbon dioxide, in addition to the flux. This combination generally offers better weld quality and appearance.

Fluxcorehitsaus is known for its high deposition rates and its ability to weld thicker materials. It is commonly used in construction, shipbuilding, and heavy fabrication industries due to its versatility and robustness. The process can be performed in various welding positions. The slag produced by the flux needs to be removed from the weld bead after welding is complete, which is typically done with a chipping hammer and wire brush.
