Flowerpots

Flowerpots, also known as plant pots or simply pots, are containers used for growing plants, typically indoors or outdoors. They are designed to hold soil or another growing medium, providing a contained environment for a plant's roots. The primary purpose of a flowerpot is to facilitate plant cultivation by offering a stable base, retaining moisture, and allowing for controlled soil conditions.

Early examples were often made from terracotta, a type of fired clay, which remains a popular choice due to its porosity, allowing for good air circulation and drainage. Other common materials include plastic, which is lightweight, durable, and inexpensive, and ceramic, which can be glazed for decorative purposes and offers a more substantial feel. More contemporary options include metal, concrete, and composite materials, each with its own aesthetic and functional characteristics.

A crucial feature of most flowerpots is the presence of drainage holes in the bottom. These holes prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot and other issues detrimental to plant health. The size and shape of flowerpots vary greatly depending on the intended plant and its growth stage.
