Flange-mounted, also written as flangemounted, refers to a mounting arrangement in which a device or component is attached to a mating flange via a flat mounting face and a set of bolts. The flange provides a rigid, precisely aligned interface that can also serve as a sealing or heat-transfer surface. This mounting method is common across mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems.

A flange-mounted interface typically consists of a flat mounting face on the device, a matching flange with bolt holes, and a gasket or seal where fluids or gases are involved. Bolt patterns are arranged on a bolt circle and may follow standardized sizes and spacings in ISO, ANSI/ASME, DIN, or other regional standards. The surface quality, flatness, and perpendicularity of the mounting faces are important to ensure proper alignment and load distribution. Materials and finish are chosen for environmental conditions, including corrosion resistance, temperature, and vibration.

Common applications include motors and gearboxes, pumps, valves, and various sensors or actuators that require robust, repeatable alignment with ancillary piping, housings, or frames. The flange-mounted approach facilitates precise positioning, easy removal and service, and integration with piping, cooling, or lubrication systems. It is favored in industrial automation, machinery, and process equipment where modularity and reliability are priorities.

Installation and maintenance considerations include selecting a compatible flange pattern, ensuring clean and flat mating surfaces, and tightening bolts in a cross or star sequence to the specified torque. Sealing arrangements, gasket selection, and vibration considerations should be addressed to maintain alignment and prevent leaks.
