FixedBearing refers to a bearing mounting arrangement in which the bearing is fixed in position within its housing, restricting both radial and axial movement of the shaft end. This arrangement fixes the axial location of the shaft and is commonly used to maintain precise alignment of coupled components such as gears, pulleys, or couplings.

In typical two-bearing shaft systems, one end is equipped with a fixed bearing and the opposite end with a floating (or free) bearing. The fixed end resists axial displacement and transmits thrust and radial loads, while the floating end allows axial movement to accommodate thermal expansion and minor misalignment. Together, these arrangements control shaft location and stiffness while enabling smooth rotation.

Selection and design considerations include the expected radial and axial loads, bearing type (such as deep-groove, angular-contact, or thrust bearings), preload requirements, and housing stiffness. Proper lubrication, seals, and secure mounting are essential to minimize wear and heat generation. Alignment accuracy and thermal effects must be considered to prevent binding or excessive wear. Mounting methods may involve shrink fits, set screws, or bolts, with attention to proper seating and avoidance of over-tightening.

Typical applications include motors, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, and other machinery where a fixed shaft location is necessary to maintain alignments and reduce end-play. Maintenance concerns focus on inspection for wear, lubrication status, seal integrity, and periodic rechecking of alignment and axial clearances to ensure long-term reliability.
