Finlintus

Finlintus is a genus of birds in the family Passeridae, commonly known as Old World finches. The genus contains three species, all of which are found in Asia. These birds are small, seed-eating birds with stout, conical bills. They are typically found in open habitats such as grasslands, savannas, and agricultural areas.

The three species in the genus Finlintus are: Finlintus cantans, Finlintus major, and Finlintus minor. Finlintus cantans is the most widespread species, found across much of South Asia and Southeast Asia. Finlintus major is found in the Indian subcontinent, while Finlintus minor is restricted to the eastern Himalayas.

Finlintus birds are generally social birds, often seen foraging in flocks. Their diet consists primarily of seeds, but they may also supplement their diet with insects, especially during the breeding season. They build cup-shaped nests in trees or shrubs and typically lay clutches of 3-5 eggs.

The conservation status of the Finlintus species varies. Finlintus cantans is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, while Finlintus major and Finlintus minor are listed as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
