Common finishing techniques include painting, where a liquid or powder coating is applied and cured to provide color, protection, and texture. Plating involves depositing a thin layer of metal onto a substrate, often for corrosion resistance, conductivity, or decorative purposes, such as chrome or nickel plating. Polishing and grinding are abrasive processes used to smooth surfaces, remove imperfections, and achieve specific levels of gloss or reflectivity. Sandblasting and shot peening use high-velocity particles to clean surfaces, create a specific texture, or induce compressive stress for improved fatigue life. Anodizing is an electrochemical process typically applied to aluminum to create a durable, corrosion-resistant oxide layer. Powder coating involves applying a dry powder electrostatically and then curing it with heat, offering a durable and attractive finish. Electroplating, electroforming, and electrophoretic deposition are other methods that utilize electrical currents to deposit materials.
