This curing process is a chemical reaction that occurs as water vapor from the air interacts with the formulation of the product.

Moisture-cured adhesives and sealants are often polyurethane-based, although other chemistries can also exhibit this property. When applied, the liquid or paste-like material is exposed to ambient humidity. The moisture initiates a polymerization process, causing the material to cross-link and form a solid, durable bond or film. This curing method is advantageous because it does not require the addition of a separate hardener or the application of heat, simplifying the application process.

The rate of curing for moisture-cured products depends on several factors, including the relative humidity of the environment, the temperature, and the thickness of the applied material. Higher humidity and temperature generally lead to faster curing.
