Fereldanes

Fereldanes are the native inhabitants of the continent of Ferelden, a land situated in the southern reaches of Thedas. They are a diverse people, comprised of humans, elves, and dwarves, though the human population forms the vast majority and has historically held the dominant political and social position. The distinct cultural groups within Ferelden, such as the Orlesian-influenced nobility in the south and the more traditional, clan-based societies in the north, contribute to the rich tapestry of Fereldane identity.

Human Fereldanes are characterized by their resilience and strong sense of community, often forged through shared hardship and a history of conflict with neighboring nations and internal strife. Their social structure is largely feudal, with a monarch at the apex of power, supported by a landed aristocracy. Magic is viewed with a mixture of awe and apprehension, with mages strictly controlled by the Chantry's Circle of Magi.

Elves in Ferelden exist primarily as second-class citizens, often living in segregated alienages within human cities or as nomadic groups in the wilderness. Their ancient culture and traditions have been largely suppressed, though remnants persist. Dwarves, while fewer in number, maintain their own distinct underground societies and traditions, though many also live in human settlements, often as skilled laborers or merchants. The various groups within Ferelden have coexisted for centuries, with periods of cooperation and tension shaping their shared history and present-day interactions.
