Feministísk

Feministísk is the Icelandic word for feminist. Feminism is a range of social theories, political movements, and moral philosophies, largely motivated by or concerning the experiences of women, in particular, the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes. While feminism as a movement has existed for centuries, the term "feminist" itself gained prominence in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The core principle of feminism is the belief that women should have equal rights and opportunities to men. This encompasses various aspects of life, including legal rights, economic participation, educational access, and personal autonomy. Feminist thought has evolved over time, leading to different waves and branches, each with its own focus and strategies.

In Iceland, the feminist movement has played a significant role in shaping the country's progressive social policies. Icelandic feminists have been at the forefront of advocating for gender equality, contributing to Iceland's high rankings in global gender equality indices. The term feministísk, therefore, represents a commitment to these principles within the Icelandic context.
