Fellteile

Fellteile is a term used in the German fur and textile industry to denote portions or pieces of animal pelts that are retained for processing or sale. The word combines Fell (fur, pelt) with Teile (parts) and is mainly employed in trade documentation, grading, and product descriptions to specify which portions of a pelt are being referenced, rather than the whole hide.

In practice, Fellteile can refer to distinct sections of a pelt that differ in fur length, density, and texture. For example, longer guard hairs (Deckhaar) and the softer underfur (Unterfell) may be treated as separate Fellteile, depending on the intended product. Different Fellteile may be separated and allocated for coats, trims, linings, or upholstery, according to the needs of manufacturers and designers.
