Feldsparkuarsa

Feldsparkuarsa is a geological term used to describe rocks or rock assemblages in which feldspar and quartz are the dominant minerals. The concept is widely applied to both igneous and clastic sedimentary contexts, reflecting a light-colored, silica-rich composition typical of felsic crustal rocks.

In igneous rocks, feldsparkuarsa-type rocks include granites and granodiorites, where alkali feldspar (such as orthoclase or microcline) and plagioclase occur together with substantial quartz. This mineral combination gives a high-silica, low to moderate-magnesium iron content and a visibly interlocking texture when crystallized. The presence of quartz distinguishes these rocks from more mafic varieties.

In sedimentary settings, feldsparkuarsa describes rocks and sands where feldspar and quartz grains dominate the diachronous clastic framework. Arkose and quartz-rich sandstones are typical examples, often recording relatively rapid sedimentation and limited chemical weathering, which preserves a large proportion of their feldspar and quartz components.
