Fatiguesensitive

Fatiguesensitive is a nonstandard adjective used in some technical and scholarly writings to denote a high susceptibility to fatigue. The term is not part of formal taxonomies and does not have a single, universally accepted definition. Depending on context, fatiguesensitive may refer to a person, procedure, device, or material whose performance or durability is notably affected by fatigue.

In psychology and physiology, fatiguesensitive individuals are those who exhibit pronounced performance decrements under fatigue. They may show greater slowing of reaction time, reduced accuracy, or impaired decision-making when physical or mental fatigue is present. Variability among individuals is common, and factors such as sleep loss, chronic illness, age, and training status modulate sensitivity to fatigue.

In materials engineering, fatiguesensitivity describes how sensitive a component's fatigue life is to changes in loading conditions, environmental factors, or manufacturing variables. A material with high fatigue sensitivity may experience large reductions in cycles-to-failure with modest increases in mean stress, corrosion exposure, surface roughness, or temperature. Fatigue sensitivity is often analyzed using S-N curves, Miner’s rule, and environmental correction factors, though formal terminology varies.

Because fatiguesensitivity is not a standardized term, authors typically explain their intended meaning when using it, or replace it with more precise phrases such as fatigue susceptibility, fatigue life sensitivity, or fatigue performance under specific conditions.
