Fanworks

They circulate on dedicated platforms and communities such as fan-fiction archives, art sites, video platforms, and fanzines; examples include Archive of Our Own, FanFiction.net, DeviantArt, and various YouTube channels or film festivals. Some fanworks are presented as serial narratives, art series, or collaborative projects.

Legal and ethical considerations vary by jurisdiction and case. Much fanwork is non-commercial and relies on transformative nature; however copyright holders retain rights. In some cases, permission or licensing is obtained; in others, creators' use relies on fair use or is tolerated through moderation and policies. Several platforms implement rules to prevent commercial exploitation or to ensure attribution; some creators release their works under Creative Commons licenses.

Impact and reception: Fanworks contribute to fandom, serve as a training ground for creators, writers, and artists, and can influence official adaptations. They may raise questions about authorial intent, copyright, and community norms, including representation and consent.
