Fahrzeugschlüssel
Fahrzeugschlüssel, commonly known as a car key, is a device used to operate a vehicle's locks and ignition. Initially, these were simple mechanical keys that engaged tumblers within the lock cylinders. The design evolved to include features like transponder chips, which communicate a unique code to the car's immobilizer system, preventing unauthorized starting. Modern vehicle keys often integrate remote functions for locking, unlocking, and even starting the engine. These are typically called key fobs. Keyless entry systems allow drivers to unlock and start their cars without physically inserting a key, relying on proximity sensors. Lost or damaged vehicle keys can be expensive to replace, often requiring specialized programming by a dealership or locksmith. Security measures have increased over time, making car theft more difficult but also increasing the complexity and cost of key replacement. The technology behind vehicle keys continues to advance, with a trend towards digital keys that can be stored on smartphones.
