Fahrerhaus
Fahrerhaus, literally “driver’s house” in German, denotes the enclosed compartment of a vehicle from which the operator controls it. The term is used for road transport vehicles such as heavy trucks and buses as well as for rail and some construction equipment. In trucks, the Fahrerhaus is the cab that contains the driver’s seat, steering and pedals, instrument cluster, communications gear, and climate controls. Depending on application, it may be a day cab or a sleeper cab, the latter providing resting space for long-haul operation. The design prioritizes ergonomics, visibility, ease of access to controls, sound insulation, and occupant comfort, since the driver spends long periods inside.
