Fagosoomidel is a term used in speculative biology and some science-fiction contexts to describe a proposed subcellular particle that mediates the formation of phagosomes and the processing of cargo during phagocytosis. In mainstream cell biology, there is no verified organelle by this name, and the concept remains unestablished as a natural cellular component.

Etymology and naming reflect its suggested function. The name combines the Greek phagein, meaning to eat, with soma, meaning body, and a diminutive suffix -idel, implying a small body or particle. This construction signals a role tied to eating or uptake at the cellular level, though the term is not widely adopted in verified literature.

In the proposed model, fagosoomidels are envisioned as membrane-bound vesicles, roughly 100 to 600 nanometers in diameter, with a lipid bilayer and surface glycoprotein adapters. They are speculated to originate from modified early endosome membranes and to coordinate cargo recognition, vesicle scission, and delivery to lysosome-like degradation compartments. Some accounts posit that fagosoomidels could operate alongside or as an alternative to known endocytic pathways.

History and reception have been limited. The concept appeared in a small number of theoretical writings and in fiction, but attempts to observe or isolate fagosoomidels in real cells have not yielded reproducible evidence. Critics highlight the lack of specific markers, inconsistent imaging results, and the absence of genetic or biochemical validation, keeping the idea controversial and largely unaccepted in conventional biology.
