Factorybased is an adjective used to describe products, processes, or systems that are designed around or produced in factory environments. The term emphasizes standardization, reproducibility, and the use of automated or semi-automated production facilities. It is often used to distinguish factory-centered approaches from artisanal, on-site, or hand-crafted methods.

In manufacturing, factorybased approaches favor modular components with standardized interfaces, scalable workflows, and tightly integrated supply chains. This enables high-volume production, consistent quality, and rapid iteration. The concept can apply to product design, where components are created with interchangeable parts, and to quality assurance, where automated testing and inspection are built into the production line.

Beyond manufacturing, factorybased is used metaphorically to describe organizational strategies that pretend to emulate factory efficiency—such as performance metrics, process reengineering, or outsourcing to centralized facilities. Critics argue that an overemphasis on standardization can stifle innovation, reduce flexibility, and negatively affect workers' conditions in some settings.
