Facettinäkymä

Facettinäkymä, often translated as "faceted view" or "faceted search," is a user interface technique commonly employed in information retrieval systems. It allows users to refine search results by applying multiple filters, known as facets. These facets are typically categories or attributes of the items being searched, such as price range, brand, color, or date.

When a user performs an initial search, the system presents the results along with a list of available facets and the count of items within each facet that match the current search. Users can then select one or more facet values to narrow down the results. For example, in an online store, a user searching for "shoes" might then select "men's" and "size 10" from the facet options to see only men's shoes in size 10.

The power of facettinäkymä lies in its interactive nature. As facets are applied, the available facet options dynamically update to reflect the remaining results, preventing users from selecting combinations that yield no items. This iterative refinement process helps users quickly zero in on the desired information or products without having to formulate complex search queries.
