FSHsekretionen refers to the secretion of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). FSH is a gonadotropin, a hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland. In females, FSH plays a crucial role in the reproductive cycle. It stimulates the growth and development of ovarian follicles, which contain the eggs. As follicles mature, they produce estrogen. FSH levels typically rise during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, peaking just before ovulation. This surge in FSH, along with Luteinizing Hormone (LH), triggers the release of a mature egg from the ovary.

In males, FSH is essential for spermatogenesis, the process of sperm production in the testes. It acts on Sertoli cells within the testes, stimulating them to support the development of sperm cells. FSH secretion is regulated by a negative feedback loop involving hormones produced by the gonads, such as estrogen and testosterone. When levels of these hormones are high, they inhibit FSH release from the pituitary. Conversely, low levels of gonadal hormones stimulate FSH secretion. Abnormalities in FSH secretion can lead to various reproductive issues, including infertility, delayed puberty, and menstrual irregularities. Diagnostic tests often measure FSH levels to assess reproductive function.
