FIBAstandardin

FIBAstandardin is the term used to refer to the set of official standards published by FIBA, the international basketball federation, for international competition and the organization of basketball events. It covers technical specifications, playing rules, and event requirements that member federations align with in order to maintain uniform conditions across games.

The standard is maintained by FIBA's Rules and Equipment Commission and is updated through formal proposals, deliberations, and ratification at FIBA congresses. Updates are released publicly and include transitional periods to allow leagues and national associations to adjust.

Key elements of the FIBAstandardin include equipment specifications such as the official ball size and weight, hoop height of 3.05 meters, and backboard dimensions; court layout; timing and scoring systems such as a 24-second shot clock; game duration and overtime rules; three-point line distance; and fouling and substitution rules. It also covers uniforms, arena requirements, and anti-doping compliance.

Adoption of the standard is widespread in international competition and in many national leagues, ensuring compatibility for cross-border play and refereeing practices. National federations may adopt the standard as a baseline while implementing local adaptations within agreed limits.

Because "FIBAstandardin" is sometimes used in multilingual texts, it is sometimes seen as a German-language compound form of "FIBA standard" or "FIBA standard in" rather than a separate term. The concept, however, remains the umbrella of FIBA's governance over basketball play and equipment.
