FGasasetus

FGasasetus is the common shorthand for the Regulation (EU) No 517/2014 on fluorinated greenhouse gases. This European Union regulation aims to reduce emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) due to their high global warming potential (GWP). These gases, which include hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), are used in various applications such as refrigeration, air conditioning, foam blowing, fire suppression, and electrical transmission equipment.

The FGasasetus sets out a phasedown schedule for HFCs, progressively reducing their availability on the EU market. It also includes bans on the use of F-gases in certain new equipment where lower-GWP alternatives are technically and economically feasible. For example, it restricts the use of HFCs in new refrigeration equipment, stationary air conditioning systems, and certain types of foams. The regulation also mandates training and certification for personnel handling F-gases, and requires proper record-keeping and reporting by businesses. Leak checks and repairs are also a key component to prevent emissions. The ultimate goal of the FGasasetus is to contribute to the EU's climate targets by significantly lowering the amount of F-gases released into the atmosphere.
