FDMmenetelmässä

FDMmenetelmässä refers to the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) method, a popular additive manufacturing or 3D printing technique. In this process, a thermoplastic filament is heated to its melting point and then extruded through a nozzle, layer by layer, onto a build platform. The molten material is deposited precisely according to a digital 3D model, solidifying rapidly upon contact with the cooler build surface or previously deposited layers.

The FDM process begins with a spool of thermoplastic filament, typically made from materials like ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), PLA (Polylactic Acid), or PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol). This filament is fed into a heated extruder, where it is melted. The extruder then moves in the X and Y axes, depositing the molten plastic onto the build platform to create one cross-sectional layer of the object. Once a layer is complete, the build platform moves down or the extruder moves up in the Z axis, and the process repeats for the next layer. This continues until the entire object is formed.

FDM is widely used for rapid prototyping, functional part production, and educational purposes due to its relatively low cost, ease of use, and the availability of a wide range of materials. The layer-by-layer deposition method can sometimes result in visible layer lines on the surface of the printed object, and the resolution and accuracy depend on factors such as nozzle diameter, layer height, and print speed. Support structures are often printed alongside the main model to assist in creating overhanging features, which are then removed after printing.
