FAZ1
FAZ1, also known as Fascinate-associated gene 1 or more commonly, the Fascin protein, is a gene that encodes a 55 kDa actin-binding protein. This protein plays a crucial role in regulating the actin cytoskeleton, a dynamic network of protein filaments within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells that is essential for cell structure, movement, and division. Fascin1 is particularly involved in the formation of actin filopodia, which are thin, dynamic, finger-like protrusions of the cell membrane that are involved in cell migration, cell-cell adhesion, and mechanosensing.
The expression of FAZ1 is particularly notable in certain cell types and during specific developmental processes.
