Fémkohászatban

Fémkohászatban refers to metallurgy in Hungarian. Metallurgy is a broad field of science and engineering that studies the physical and chemical behavior of metallic elements, their intermetallic compounds, and their mixtures, which are called alloys. It is the science and engineering of metals. The term metallurgy is derived from the Greek word metallon, meaning "metal" and ergon, meaning "work."

The field covers the production of metals from their ores, the purification of metals, and the production of alloys. It also encompasses the study of how metals and alloys behave under different conditions, such as heat, stress, and corrosion. Metallurgists are involved in the design, development, and manufacturing of metal-based products, ranging from aircraft components and automobiles to medical implants and electronic devices.

There are two main branches of metallurgy: extractive metallurgy and physical metallurgy. Extractive metallurgy deals with the processes used to extract metals from their natural sources, such as ores. This involves processes like mining, crushing, grinding, concentrating the ore, and then using chemical or physical methods to separate the metal from the other elements. Physical metallurgy focuses on the properties of metals and alloys and how they can be modified through heat treatment, mechanical working, and alloying to achieve desired characteristics. This includes studying the microstructure of metals, phase transformations, and mechanical properties like strength, hardness, and ductility.
