Eyrin

Eyrin is a fictional coastal city on the eastern shore of the continent of Aetheria. With an estimated population of 60,000, it functions as the region’s administrative and commercial center. The city occupies a natural harbor at the mouth of the River Lyth and experiences a temperate maritime climate, with mild winters and cool summers.

Founded as a trading post in the early medieval period by seafaring clans from the highlands, Eyrin grew through maritime commerce and regional exchange. It became a member of the Aetherian League and developed fortifications and markets that attracted craftspeople and merchants. The Great Fire of 1129 reshaped the city’s layout, after which stone construction and public squares defined much of its core.

Today Eyrin is governed by a mayor and a ten-member City Council. The council handles municipal legislation, budgeting, and planning, while the office of mayor provides executive leadership. The economy centers on the port, shipbuilding, logistics, and services, with a growing role for information technology and tourism.

Culturally, Eyrin maintains a maritime heritage reflected in festivals such as the Autumn Harvest and the Sea Market. The city supports a two-hospital system and the University of Eyrin, established in the 17th century, offering programs in engineering, navigation, and the humanities. The official language is Eyrinic, with minority communities contributing to local dialects and traditions.

Landmarks include the Sea Gate, the Lighthouse of Lyth, and the Old Market Arcades. Transportation features a bustling port, ferry routes to nearby islands, and a rail link to inland towns, connecting Eyrin to the wider region.
