Exynos

Exynos is a family of system-on-a-chip (SoC) products developed by Samsung Electronics for mobile devices. Each Exynos chip combines a CPU, GPU, modem, memory controller, image signal processor, and other subsystems on a single silicon die. The line is used primarily in Samsung’s own Galaxy smartphones and tablets, and its designs have evolved across generations, reflecting advances in fabrication technology and connectivity.

Over its history, Exynos has spanned high-end and mid-range segments. The family has employed ARM-based CPU cores and various GPUs, with later generations incorporating more advanced graphics engines and AI-oriented processing units. Modern Exynos chips commonly feature integrated 4G/5G modems and improvements in performance, efficiency, and neural processing.

In 2022 Samsung introduced an Exynos model that includes an AMD RDNA 2–based graphics engine, a milestone in the line that leverages a collaboration with AMD to boost mobile graphics performance. This generation illustrates Samsung’s strategy to expand the on-chip graphics capabilities beyond traditional GPUs.

Market compatibility varies by region. In many markets, Galaxy devices ship with Exynos chips for international versions, while U.S. models typically use Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Samsung continues to develop Exynos alongside its Snapdragon and other platform strategies for mobile devices.
