ExtendedHiggs

ExtendedHiggs refers to theoretical frameworks in particle physics that enlarge the Higgs sector beyond the single scalar doublet of the Standard Model. These extensions introduce additional scalar fields, such as extra doublets, singlets, or triplets, and they alter the pattern of electroweak symmetry breaking. The enlarged scalar sector typically predicts a richer spectrum of Higgs bosons and can have implications for electroweak precision observables, flavor physics, and cosmology. Motivations include addressing naturalness, providing dark matter candidates, or enabling mechanisms for baryogenesis.

Common realizations include the two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM), the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), and the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with an additional singlet, as well as Higgs triplet models such as the Georgi-Machacek construction. These theories generally yield extra neutral and charged scalars, including CP-even and CP-odd states, and can modify the couplings of the observed 125 GeV Higgs boson. The phenomenology depends on the masses, mixing angles, and the detailed field content.

Experimental status and outlook: The Large Hadron Collider has placed limits on additional scalars and on deviations of Higgs couplings, but no definitive evidence for extended Higgs sectors has been confirmed to date. Ongoing searches and future colliders aim to explore a wide mass range and coupling patterns predicted by extended Higgs scenarios. Theoretical consistency requires attention to vacuum stability, perturbative unitarity, and compatibility with electroweak precision data and flavor constraints.
