The term stresses the ambivalence of deviants who may catalyze progress or cause trouble, depending on outcomes and perspectives.

Examples: fictional archetypes include the maverick inventor who ignores conventional constraints; avant-garde artists who redefine genres; or entrepreneurs who pursue disruptive business models outside established norms.

Criticism and limitations: The lack of clear criteria makes the term subjective; there is a risk of romanticizing deviance or conflating harm with innovation.
