Everio

Everio is a line of consumer digital camcorders produced by JVC (Victor Company of Japan). Launched in the mid-2000s, the Everio line distinguished itself by offering built-in storage options that reduced reliance on tapes, including hard disk drive HDD options in some models and later memory cards.

Storage and formats: Early Everio models used internal HDDs for SD video recording, typically in MPEG-2 format, enabling long recording times. As technology progressed, Everio models adopted high-definition recording with AVCHD or MP4 formats and used SD/SDHC cards or hybrid storage configurations. Video quality ranged from standard definition to high definition, depending on the model.

Series and features: The lineup included several sublines, notably GZ-HD and GZ-E HDD-based models and later Everio R designs that emphasized compact form and improved interfaces. Some models integrated built-in stabilization, USB transfer, and basic on-camera editing capabilities.

Impact and status: The Everio range contributed to the broader shift toward non-tape recording in consumer camcorders. The line offered an alternative to traditional camcorders by focusing on built-in storage and direct data transfer to computers, and spanned multiple generations during the 2000s and 2010s.
