Eurocopter

Eurocopter was the European helicopter manufacturing division of the aerospace group EADS, later known as Airbus Group. It was formed in 1992 to unify the continent’s civil and military rotorcraft activities, drawing on the helicopter businesses of Aérospatiale (France), Deutsche Aerospace (DASA) of Germany, and CASA of Spain. As one of the world’s largest helicopter makers, Eurocopter developed a broad range of civil and military rotorcraft for commercial, law-enforcement, search-and-rescue, and offshore roles.

The company produced a family of helicopters for light to heavy missions, including models such as the EC130, EC135, EC145, EC155, EC225, and EC725. These aircraft were deployed in passenger transport, EMS, corporate, police, and offshore support operations, with a global service network and production capabilities across key European facilities.

In 2014 the helicopter division was rebranded as Airbus Helicopters, aligning with the parent company’s branding strategy under Airbus Group. The Eurocopter name ceased to be used for new products, but it remains a historical reference to the era of European rotorcraft consolidation. The transition placed the helicopter business within a single, global Airbus brand, continuing development, production, and support for civil and military rotorcraft under the Airbus Helicopters umbrella.
